Introduction

SAP BW powered by SAP HANA was the very first SAP application that ran completely on top of SAP HANA and has meanwhile reached a great adoption. For many customers it has become the entry point for their SAP HANA roadmap. Customers will benefit not only from phantastic performance improvements for data load, query runtime and planning functions but also in simplified data modeling as the number of InfoProviders are highly reduced and all modeling is done within in a new, modern UI that is unique across all modeling tools. At the same time data layers are reduced and with the new virtualization capabilities BW can also serve as the “Logical Data Warehouse”.

Advanced DSO - What's so Advanced about it

Context:

With the Advent of BW 7.4 Powered by HANA, we are observing sea changes in the world of SAP BW, now transforming into EDW.

One of the prominent changes is the introduction of a new Infoprovider known as Advanced DSO.

I believe the name Advanced is well justified because of the fact that it advances to replace Cube and DSO (now known as classic DSO)  and is positioned to

become the preferred Infoprovider for persistency in SAP BW.

I got a chance to lay my hands on this new kid on the block and wanted to share my experience with it.

Structure:

I will be presenting it with numbered points and screenshots. Rest is self-explanatory.

Content:

This paper will give you a fair introduction of aDSOs (Advanced DSOs). The document contains sequenced content with screenshots.
Therefore, attaching XML version.

Sequel:

The next part, Advanced DSO - Behind the Scenes - SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse - SCN Wiki,
will furnish an in-depth e
xploration outcome for aDSOs and will give you a detailed explanation behind

different LSA++ layers and how it morphs into different types of Infoproviders.

Solution for 0ANALYSIS Issue while trying to access ‘Open in Design Studio’ option of S/4HANA CDS Views

Hello Friends,

S/4 HANA is an buzz word in SAP Industry and by now, you might be aware that we have some Embedded Analytics available within S/4 HANA. On such option is the ‘Open in Design Studio’.

When you log into the Fiori Launchpad of an S/4 HANA System. We have an option called “Query Browser”.

1.png

The available CDS views (List Format) are available within the Query Browser.

2.png

You have the option of selecting any CDS view and Open the same in ‘Design Studio’ mode.

3.png

Unfortunately while trying to perform the above step, we are getting the following error. “Application 0ANALYSIS could not be loaded’.

4.png

Also, in some cases, the design studio page will not open and will keep hanging in the following screen.

5.png

Later some time, nothing happens and the system goes back to the CDS View List page.

If you give this to a UI5 Expert, he/she might come up asking you if the following service has something to with BW/BI

Solution: It’s a good news for the BW consultants that we still have some BW relevant components in S/4 HANA Analytics.

Now what is the real Solution?

Yes, your UI5 consultant is right.

0ANALYSIS is an BW/BI relevant component.

Go to RSOR tcode in the S4HANA backend System.

Navigate to the following Object Type:

8.png

Move it to the right pane and install.

9.png

On successful installation, you can find that the issue is solved and your Design studio access to the corresponding CDS view would now be available.

10.png

The solution is quite simple, but in case if you are not aware of this workaround, you might end up spending a lot of time for debugging.

Unfortunately, sometimes the issue itself will not be correctly shown in fiori side.

Hope this document was helpful.

There are lot of debates running around in the Analytics world about the future existence of BW and like always there is only one reply to that “BW is here to Live and it will survive for sure

I will come up with more documents here in this space, through which we the BW consultants have solid valid points to debate that BW has enough significance, even in S/4 HANA Embedded Analytics.

SAP BW 7.50 is the next cornerstone on the simplification road towards the S/4HANA. With the full support of Advanced DSO (aDSO) objects for SAP-NLS and DT (dynamic tiering) and further enhancements for the BW modeling environment in Eclipse (query designer) and the new HANA source system to stay compatible with S/4HANA, also the Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) is now fully integrated in the SAP BW software layer for the standard and embedded use case. This update also explains the decision for the code split from 7.40 to 7.50 and further considerations for the upgrade and implementation.

One Solution to the Issue where BEx Query goes to debugger mode while using Composite Provider

$

0

This document applies to BW7.4 SP11, HANA DB.
This document only discusses about the actions taken for the resolution of this Issue.

Please note:
Experts and Gurus please excuse me for the actual cause behind
this issue is still being analyzed as HANA DB being new to us!!

Issue description:

The model design for the BEx Query is shown below. It was throwing dump while we u
sed to drag 0DEBT_CCTR Info Object in the drill down of the report. The Query was on top of Composite Provider (ZPT_CP04) underlying of which was the ADSO (ZPT_AD04) and IO (ZEMP_2001) as below screenshot.

pic-1.jpg

Error Description/Messages:

As we can see here, in RSRT the error message mentions about Info Object 0COSTCENTER and the CP (ZPT_CP04). The Query goes into Debugger Mode on dragging 0DEBT_CCTR in the drilldown. Here must to mention, 0DEBT_CCTR actually refers 0COSTCENTER.

pic-2.jpg

What we wanted to achieve:

The data preview on Composite Provider (TC-Listcube).

This is what we want to achieve at report level.

pic-3.png

Resolution:

Initially we tried to rebuild index on the particular IO 0COSTCENTER , then 0DEBB_CCTR and our ADSO and also CP involved using the program RSDDB_LOGINDEX_CREATE as recommended by SAP. Yet the problem persisted and didn’t help (for earlier such a case it  did work of course).

So we brought changes at composite provider level for that InfoObject 0DEBB_CCTR as below screenshot.

We changed the default Reporting Properties Only posted values for Navigation to Only Values in InfoProvider

And Bingo!!

pic-4.png

Thus we can see the Query started working as desired giving us the exact output we saw at CP level:

pic-5.png

Please note:

The setting inside CP for the reporting properties on a particular InfoObject  becomes effective at Query Designer Level as well automatically. Meaning thereby is the screenshot of CP for Debitted Cost Center settings  can be seen when you open up the Query Designer.

Aparajit

Using SAP HANA SQLScript in SAP BW Transformations

Are you looking for a way to define custom transformation rules which cannot be implemented using standard BW functionality and want to leverage the power of the SAP HANA database platform? This First Guidance document describes the option to defined custom transformation rules with SAP BW powered by SAP HANA, which are processed completely on the SAP HANA database effectively eliminating the need to move data over the network between database and the application server. Not only does this option provide maximum performance, but also allows to leverage many of the powerful capabilities of the SAP HANA platform.

Dear All,

We have BW 7.5 SP1 installed on HANA.

I installed HANA studio, ABAP in Eclipse and BW Modeling Tools. However, I am not able to create or maintain InfoObjects in HANA studio.

I suppose this function has been supported since 7.5 SP0(according to InfoObject (New) - What's New in SAP NetWeaver 7.5 (Release Notes) - SAP Library).

Below is the system environment and related support package versions.

Am I forgot to install something?

SAP's Overall Data Warehousing Strategy

SAP HANA Data Warehousing summarizes SAP's offering for highly flexible and agile Data Warehousing. It mainly consists of an application driven approach based on SAP BW powered by SAP HANA and in addition of  an SQL driven approach also based on SAP HANA and additional SAP tools like SAP Power Designer, SAP DW Foundation, SAP Information Steward etc. Of course both approaches can also be combined with each other.

SAP HANA  Data Warehousing

This presentation introduces the SAP DW Strategy, its components and the roadmap.

HANA Data Warehousing: The HANADW

With this blog Thomas Zurek sheds some light into the direction that SAP is taking towards a unified offering for building a data warehouse on top of HANA. The unofficial working title is the HANA DW. The blog is divided into 3 sections, each addressing the most pressing questions  from customers who have already seen flavours of this.

How to consume SAP BW objects in HANA Studio

$
0
0

This document is valid  for SAP BW on HANA 7.4 installed on the server with packages sp5 and above:

In the current era of advance versions of  BW on HANA or native HANA , we may not find the old BW objects like Infocubes, Standard DSO, Infobject etc. anymore in  future days of  data modeling . But until all SAP BW projects move to BW on HANA 7.5 ( or above)  we have the relevance of consuming those BW objects in SAP HANA .

This document is  more pictorial self-explanatory presentation

From BW on HANA 7.3 release we have the feature of consuming BW objects into SAP HANA directly.

From BW 7.4 onwards automatic HANA view creation is also available from SAP BW workspace.

There is automated way to get all info providers to be available in HANA studio as views, we need to just enable the check box as shown in below screen shots.

View would be generated in hana studio in "System-local--> BW2HANA>>BW Package.

There are 2 ways to use BW objects in HANA studio

1) By Enabling the checkbox of External HANA View in  BW object Settings

2) By Manual import  of the objects in  HANA Studio

This document will depict  step by step approach , how we can achieve that

1)      By Enabling the  checkbox of External HANA View in  BW object Settings:

a)      Infoobject:

External SAP HANA view for master data :  To generate Attribute view

External sap HANA view for Master Data Infoprovider  :  To generateAnalytic view

Infoobject as Master Data:

Go to the Master Data tab of Infoobject

Step1.jpg

Infoobjet as Infoprovider:

Test infobject is appeared as Attribute view in  "System-local--> BW2HANA>>BW Package under the Attibute View.

When Infoobject is used as Infoprovider it will appear under Analytic Vie folder

Step2.jpg

b) DSO :

  • For DSO and Infocube a new checkbox is made available in  the settings tab “External SAP HANA view for reporting”. If this flag is set accordingly, an external SAP HANA analytical view is generated automatically with the activation of DSO.

Step4.jpg

c)       Composite provider:

At the time of creating Composite Provider from SAP BW modeler perspective of HANA Studio , we have to tick the check box of external SAP hana view . A calculation view will be created automatically .

Step5.jpg

d)       Infocube:

Same as DSO - Analytic view will be created under the Analytic folder in HANA .

Below settings we need to do in BW

Step6.jpg

e) BeX Query:

You can expose the Query directly as a SAP HANA view, no need for replication.

Goto TCODE :RSDDB Choose  Quey as infoprovider ,

click on  Release Query as infoprovider

then  create

go to SAP HANA/BWA Settings Tab

and  enable the External HANA Repository view  , then Activate and fill index.

Step8.jpg

2)      By Manual import  of the BW objects in  HANA Studio:

We can directly import the BW objects directly in HANA Studio.

At the time of importing the Info cube  we  need to choose any  Package whatever available in HANA . It will create one  Calculation View and one  Analytic view in the respective folders for Analytic view and Calculation view.

step lmport.jpg

Step9.jpg

In case of DSO if we import from BW it will create Analytic view only.

If it is Infoobject it will create an Attribute view after importing into HANA

Without importing the BW objects in  BW-HANA Modeler perspective, we can also directly add  any BW objects into any of the Views ( CALC, AN, AT ..) See below in the plus sign marked in the canvas. We will get all available BW objects in the form of tables.

We have to add the BW objects as ( P-table, A-table( Active Data table), F-table, D-Table….)

Step10.jpg

If you add the P tables, A tables etc. you need to maintain the text description manually using joins with other required text tables.

How to derive Update Mode & Request ID in the Transformation

$
0
0

Hi,

In Implementation or Support projects we all will have requirement where we might need to derive the Update mode in the Transformation.

Below is the code which would give the update mode.

DATA: LV_UMODE TYPE RSUPDMODE.

     CALL METHOD P_R_REQUEST->GET_UPDMODE

       RECEIVING

         R_UPDMODE = LV_UMODE.

LV_MODE now will hold F or D based on the Which DTP we execute.

Finding the Request ID of the Current load, we can use below code.

   DATA: N_REQUID TYPE RSBKREQUID.

    CALL METHOD P_R_REQUEST->GET_REQUID

      RECEIVING

        R_REQUID = N_REQUID.

N_REQUID will store the Request ID

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Bhaskar Shanthi.

Real-time Reporting in SAP HANA using Calculation View, Open ODS and Bex

Real-time Reporting in SAP HANA using Calculation View, Open ODS and Bex

Introduction:

There is always a need to have real time reporting within SAP HANA transaction system. HANA calculation view in combination with any reporting tool is an obvious choice to meet this requirement. But when you do not have third party reporting tool that can integrate with HANA then it’s hard. Thanks to SAP’s inbuilt Bex functionality and Open ODS which can become your front end for real time reporting.

Scenario:

You have a requirement to develop a report to show FIGL line item level postings for a specific fiscal period. This is an ad-hoc real time reporting requirement. This can be achieved within SAP ECC HANA system by building calculation view on the basic table ACDOCA or BSEG. Then by building a semantic layer using open ODS and Bex query on top of this calculation view, you can build a nice reporting environment for ad-hoc real time reporting within SAP ECC HANA system.

Step By Step Procedure:

The environment discussed in the current context is SAP ECC HANA. Document is showing high level concept and not going through details of creating HANA views, Open ODS and Bex Query. It is assumed that developer is experienced with this development.

Step 1: Create new calculation view using analytic view and attribute view to combine data from various other tables within ECC HANA system. Your calculation view should have all the fields required and all the business logic needed. This development can be done in HANA Studio or Eclipse under SAP HANA Modeler perspective. You need to have HANA Modeling access for this development.

Hana Calculation view.png

Step 2: Create Open ODS:

You need to switch to BW Modeling perspective within HANA studio for this development.

Right click on the infoarea and choose newàOpen ODS view

create open ODS.png

In the next window provide the details as below:

BW Project and Infoarea will be pre-filled

Give meaningful name and Description to your Open ODS

Choose Semantics as “Facts”

Choose Source Type as “Database Table or View”

Choose DB Object Schema as _SYS_BIC

Source system will be populated as “_SYS_BIC00”

Enter or Choose DB Object Name as you Calculation view created in the STEP 1 above.

Click FINISH

create open ODS_2.png

Step 3: Field assignment in Open ODS:

Next you need to drag and drop required fields from “Source Field” window to “View Fields” window

Also make required fields as Characteristics (Key).

Where ever necessary assign Infoobject to fields in General tab. This is important if you want to create selection variable on certain fields. Variable cannot be created directly on the field, you need to assign infoobject to that field. Then activate Open ODS

create open ODS_3.png

Step 4: Bex Query development on Open ODS:

Right click on your Open ODS and choose BW Query as below. Then build you query structure as per the requirement. This development is same as any Bex development in HANA Studio or Eclipse. I expect developer to know the steps of building Bex Query.

Create Bex.png

Create Bex_1.png

Step 5: Running Bex Query on SAP Portal or Fiori using UIBB (User Interface Building Blocks)

UIBBs are the interface views of a Web Dynpro ABAP component (the Web Dynpro windows). You can host this report URL either on SAP Portal or Fiori as below. You need to determine URL of the report by using ABAP Communication log.

Fiori tiles:

To execute this report you can double click on tile or link. Report output will look like as below.

Enhance technical content with BEx 7.x Bookmark calls

Scope

The scope of the document is to show a possible way to track BEx 7.x Bookmark execution and integrate the results into the technical content. Integration is done with the help of quite new SAP BW objects, like Open ODS View or Composite Provider.

Tracking bookmark execution could be very helpful in case of housekeeping and/or invalid bookmarks due to query changes.

General

The implementation was done on a SAP BW 750 system SP 2 on a HANA DB Release 1.00.102.02.1446663129. The implementation can also be done on SAP BW 7.X with a classic data source on custom table and/or a virtual provider.

Result

The result of the step-by-step instruction will be a technical content query showing the executed bookmarkid in the technical content session in which it was executed.

Result.png

Step by Step

The following step-by-step instruction will lead you the the result shown described above in chapter Result.

STEP 1: Create Bookmark InfoObject

Create InfoObject with the help of transaction rsd1 with the technical name ZPA_DATA, which will store your bookmark id.

  • Technical Name
    • ZPA_DATA
  • Texts
    • Bookmark ID
  • Type
    • CHAR 30
    • NO ALPHA Conversion
  • No Masterdata
  • No Texts

Step_1.png

STEP 2: Create Bookmark Content Table

Create database table ZPA_TCT_BOOKMARK with the help of transaction se11

  • Technical name
    • ZPA_TCT_BOOKMARK

Bridge_slim.jpg
Introduction

Improve decision-making capabilities by bringing unprecedented performance to SAP  Business Warehouse with SAP HANA for current data and SAP Sybase IQ for historical data - achieving the perfect balance of cost and performance. The adapter for SAP/Sybase IQ as a near-line solution is delivered with the BW system. Integration of SAP/Sybase IQ makes it possible for you to separate data that you access frequently from data that you access rarely, thus making less demand on the resources in the BW system. The near-line data is stored in compressed form. You can thus reduce the costs incurred by data that is accessed less frequently. Please note that the SAP-NLS Solution can be used with all supported database versions supported by SAP BW 7.3x.

For introduction and positioning please have a look to the presentation

Update – Data LifeCycle Management for SAP BW powered by SAP HANA

In his latest blog Klaus Nagel talks about a new option to handle the “warm” data in your SAP BW powered by SAP HANA system.

Using SAP HANA SQL Script in SAP BW Transformations

Are you looking for a way to define custom transformation rules which cannot be implemented using standard BW functionality and want to leverage the power of the SAP HANA database platform? This First Guidance document describes the option to defined custom transformation rules with SAP BW powered by SAP HANA, which are processed completely on the SAP HANA database effectively eliminating the need to move data over the network between database and the application server. Not only does this option provide maximum performance, but also allows to leverage many of the powerful capabilities of the SAP HANA platform.

The Wienerberger Story

The world's largest producer of bricks and the European leader in clay roof tiles, Wienerberger's business is characterized by strong seasonal fluctuations in demand. But slow IT performance, lack of functionality, and high support costs were making it difficult to improve sales planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
The central deployment of the planning applications kit for the SAP® Business Warehouse application powered by SAP HANA® allows Wienerberger to take a more granular, bottom-up approach to sales planning. The solution enables the business to make better, more-aligned decisions and IT to reduce support costs by up to 70% and accelerate the rollout of solution enhancements.
